Gambit and G2 secures playoffs spot | IEM Cologne

Gambit esports and G2 esports secure their spot in IEM Cologne playoffs. Gambit beat NIP 2-1 in upper bracket round 2 matchup of Group A, whereas G2 beat BIG 2-1 to move on to round 3 of upper bracket of Group A. Both these team secured a top 2 finish in their Group, which means they are qualified in playoffs.

G2 and Gambit will now face each other in the Group A upper bracket round 3 matchup. The winner will be 1 seed from group A and will directly be placed in semi-finals of playoffs. Whereas the loser will be number 2 seed and will face the number 3 seed of group B in quarterfinals.

After and amazing run in this season gambit secured world #1 rank, but there were many doubts and questions regarding their LAN performance. Gambit had secured their title as the King of Online era but fans and critiques were having their doubts on LAN as the roster had very less LAN experience. Gambit proved all of them wrong and became the first team to reach playoffs of IEM Cologne.

On the other hand G2 had a pretty inconsistence season so far. But they are looking pretty good so far in this tournament. It is the first LAN event for this new G2 roster.

Gambit had dominated G2 so far in 2021 as they won all their matchups against them but all of those games were online. G2 will now have a chance to show their LAN experience and win this series against Gambit.
